Parenting is a hard job. Although being a parent is an exciting time in an adult’s life, they have to deal with growing pains like puberty, crushes and hormones. Adolescence is the most important stage in a child’s life since this is the time they’ll grow into the adults they’ll be in the future. Parents must be attentive during this time. Can you imagine how difficult it must be for celebrity parents to raise their kids while balancing their hectic schedules? For actress and politician Lucy Torres-Gomez, she is surprisingly not too worried with Juliana Gomez – her teenage daughter.
In fact, Lucy admitted that she likes where she is in motherhood. Last May 28, Lucy Torres-Gomez answered some question in an interview with PEP. They spoke with her at the National Museum of Natural History during the Balik Saya design competition.
The Leyte Representative revealed what raising a teenage daughter was like. She says that open communication helps ease the transition Juliana is going through – from teen to woman.
“I think that the years I’ve invested in my daughter, spending time with her, I’m really reaping because we have an open relationship.
“I’m really not worried about her growing up and all the things that come with growing up like the boys coming, knocking at our door… I feel that it’s very normal.”
Furthermore, the 43-year-old celebrity mom admitted that she has a different approach to parenting than her husband Richard Gomez.
“Si Richard is more chill when it comes to Juliana, trying out new sports or new things.
“My upbringing kasi is very sheltered and si Richard naman, he’s very outgoing, he was allowed to do all sorts of sports.
“I think, everything we become as parents is really rooted on how we were brought up in each of our homes.
“I learn from Richard, he also learns from me, so it’s really team work, balancing out… and also me, learning also from my child.”
Lucy was asked how Julianna opens up the conversations about her crushes. The actress said “Casual lang,” noting they’re not “restrictive” at their home.
“Why make something that’s perfectly normal and nice, why see it as something bad or wrong or malicious?
“I always tell her lang that, ‘Don’t make your world so small, you’re so young.’
“She’s only 17 and there’s so much ahead of her. She doesn’t need to make a decision now.
