Today, Julie Anne San Jose is one of the most celebrated singers and performers of her time. Even though she’s practically young at 23 years old, this Kapuso singer has conquered the hearts of fans all over the nation thanks to her hair-raising voice and her signature girl-next-door looks.
However, did you know that she almost came close to quitting showbiz in the past? During the press conference of her latest show, “My Guitar Princess,” Julie Anne plays the role of Celina, an aspiring musician whose family disapproves of her dreams. The singer-turned-actress claims she relates with Celina at a deeper level, because her father did not want her to join showbiz in the past:
“Sobrang nakaka-relate po ako. It’s not just about music, but ‘yung relationship with your family also. ‘Cause ‘yung karakter po ni Celina ‘yung mommy po niya (Adele) ayaw po siya na kumakanta. Basta anything na may relation sa music. I’ve been there, too. Hindi naman po eksakto ‘yung situation pero ‘yung dad ko po kasi ayaw niya po talaga ako na narito sa showbiz.”
Although this might sound like a bad judgment on the father’s part, he just had his best interests for Julie Anne. After all, she was still young when she entered and eventually made it to the grand finale of “Popstar Kids.” Nevertheless, Julie Anne San Jose persevered to reach her dreams of making it big.
Soon enough, she learned to compromise with her parents, especially her father. Their main concern was her education, and she proved to them that she can ace her subjects without having the need to give up her career in showbiz:
“Binigyan ko naman po sila ng good grades and I really worked hard for it. Even though sinabi ko sa sarili ko parang ang hirap niyang pagsabayin, but eventually, I managed to do it, I managed to finish it.”
In the end, she was able to experience the fruits of her labor! In 2016, Julie Anne San Jose proudly marched to the stage to receive her college diploma from Angelicum College in Quezon City. Indeed, our Kapuso actress is the living proof that you can reach anything as long as you put your mind and heart into it.
